SAS Site License Information

Purchasing and License Period
Licenses for the September 2011 to August 2012 period are now available. Regardless of when you make your purchase, the current software license will expire on August 31, 2012. The program will no longer run once the current license has expired.
  • This license date range is fixed by SAS and cannot be pro–rated.
  • You must verify SAS version compatibility with your computer(s) prior to ordering, see below for more information.
  • SAS orders cannot be refunded for any reason once the online form has been submitted. If you have any questions contact us prior to submitting a license request.
This page, the License Distribution Rules page, and the SAS FAQs all contain detailed information on using and licensing SAS from CUMC IT.

Compatibility
Please remember, you are responsible for verifying the hardware and software requirements on any computer on which SAS is to be installed. The information below is provided as a courtesy, you may also contact SAS technical support directly with any questions regarding versions and compatibility.
  • Windows 71: SAS 9.2 New or Renewal
  • Windows XP and Vista1: SAS 9.2 New or Renewal, and 9.1.3 for Renewal only
  • Linux: SAS 9.2 New or Renewal, and 9.1.3 for Renewal only.
  • Macintosh: the Macintosh OS is not compatible with SAS. For more information please see SAS FAQ 1732 and SAS 9.1.3 support on Boot Camp. IMPORTANT: CUMC IT does not support virtual or guest operating systems including Boot Camp.

1Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of SAS 9.2 are available for Windows 7, XP, and Vista. SAS is not compatible with Windows Home versions; you must be running Windows Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate.

No other versions of SAS are currently available through CUMC's license. Anyone running an earlier version of must upgrade; this means you must purchase a license and an installation disk for the upgrade version.

Technical Support
The CUMC IT Service Desk provides this license as a service to the Columbia University Medical Center community. Potential licensees should refer to the rules regarding licensing at CUMC. Whenever possible, the Service Desk will answer questions about the installation and use of SAS. However the licensee is responsible for the installation and for understanding and maintaining his/her own hardware and operating system.

Cost, Payment, and License Period
  • License prices are fixed by SAS and cannot be pro-rated. The software will not run after the license expires.
  • All new licensees and those choosing to upgrade to a newer version of SAS must purchase an installation disc in addition to the license(s). NOTE: SAS is no longer selling installation kits in binders. Anyone needing to install SAS must purchase an installation disc as well.

NOTE: One license is the equivalent of either one computer (laptop, desktop) or a single Unix processor. The number of CPUs depends on the make and model of the Unix box you are using. You must provide us with that information in order for us to determine the price for the license. The cost is $575 per CPU. In addition, server pricing for any platform will be calculated by the number of CPUs.

How to License SAS
If you are not sure what to order, please see the FAQ titled How do I know what kind of license to order or whether I need an installation kit?

Please review all of these steps prior to submitting the online order form:

  1. Complete the SAS Site License Agreement web form, linked at the end of these instructions.
    Students please note additional agreement conditions listed on the Site License Agreement form.
  2. Once submitted please allow 24 hours for your request to be processed by the Service Desk staff. Pick up is only available between 9am and 5pm Monday through Friday.
  3. Stop by the Service Desk on the 2nd floor of the Hammer Building to sign your license and pick up any installation material.
    • Licensee signature and a valid Columbia University ID card will be required to pick up software.
    • Students, faculty and staff with a valid ID card may pay by cash, credit card, or check made out to "Columbia University". If paying by cash, please bring the exact amount whenever possible.
    • You must agree to install SAS on only those machines for which you have paid. This is subject to auditing by SAS institute.
