Resources for Researchers

Information on this page is intended to help CUIMC researchers find relevant technical resources available through Columbia and the Medical Center.

Programs and Software

Below are various programs and software that are available for use at CUIMC.

Also see the Software Downloads and Applications and Access pages for more complete lists of programs used at CUIMC.

Data Management Planning

Columbia University Libraries provide extensive services to conduct data management planning. Please see the CU Libraries/Information Services page on Research Data Services for a number of tools and guidance.

CUIMC IT offers the Data Privacy and Security resources listed below. If a department uses other resources and/or a Certified IT Group other than CUIMC IT, users within that department can contact them directly for assistance or verification. Department Administrators can advise on how to contact these resources if it is unclear. Contact information for each of the CITGs is available here.

Data Privacy and Security

These are methods to keep electronic information and the "endpoints" or systems that access, transmit, store and/or process this information (computers, phones, tablets, servers, medical equipment, etc.) protected. Researchers may be interested in exploring the University policies that are relevant for research activities here; several of these policies are specific to data, devices, and IT aspects.

For guidance on PHI and RHI see the CUIMC Privacy Office's HIPAA Policies page section on Research and HIPAA.

COVID-19 Research Guidance

Columbia Research's COVID-19 pages includes Remote Work and Access to Data for guidance on accessing data remotely, and Communicating with Research Subjects Remotely for guidance on apps that can be used to contact research subjects.
