myPassword Instant Password Management

• Change Your Password - if you know your password and would like to change it instantly.
• Reset Your Password - if you have forgotten your password.
• Unlock Your Account - if you have tried to login with an incorrect password more than three times.
• Synchronize Your Passwords - smartphones, tablets and laptops that have stored your password often need to have a saved password updated if you change or reset your password.

IMPORTANT: This is only for computer login accounts on the MC domain (which most CUMC IT supported computers use) and CUMC IT Exchange email accounts.

If you have not used myPassword yet, we encourage you to visit it now and set up your security questions before you need to reset or unlock your account. Please be sure to read the instructions below for assistance.

1. Go to https://mypassword.cumc.columbia.edu.
2. You will be prompted to login with your Columbia UNI account and password. This is not the same login used for your computer or Exchange account, though they may all use your Columbia UNI for your account name.

   

3. The myPassword Self-Service page will appear. Select the link to Edit my Profile.

   

4. You will be prompted to login with your MC account, the same login you use for your computer and/or you Exchange email account.
   NOTE: There is a 6 minute Inactivity Countdown timer at the bottom of most pages in the myPassword web site. This is a security feature to prompt another login if there is no activity on the page within that time, preventing someone else from changing information if you have left your computer unattended. If you require more time to fill out fields on a myPassword page, you can simply click any blank spot on the myPassword page to start the timer over again.

   

5. Fill in your security questions and answers.
   • The answers are case sensitive - any capitals or lowercase that you use in your answers will be required when typing in the answer in the future.
   • You will be asked to select three from a list of prepared questions and create three of your own questions. All six are required in order to meet high security standards; keep in mind that this is your login to access CUMC files and must be highly protected to meet federal and healthcare institution regulations. The convenience of being able to reset, change or unlock your password at any time is well worth answering six questions.
   • For the three prepared questions, use the drop down arrow to the right of the Question field to select from the list. Select questions that you will be easy for you to recall but difficult for others to guess.
   • Type in the answer for the question you have selected in the Answer field. Remember that all answers are case-sensitive.
   • For the three created questions, type your own in the Question field and then its answer in the Answer field. Create questions that you will be easy for you to answer but difficult for others to guess. 6. Select the Update button at the bottom of the page when done. You will be returned to the logon window.
