Classroom Technology Support

Classroom Technology Support oversees the use and support of campus classrooms and auditoriums in addition to providing audio/visual and related computing services for the Columbia University Medical Center community. We are dedicated to bringing the latest teaching and learning technologies to the classroom and assisting in making every event and class an enriching experience.

Our Services
The following is a brief overview, please see links including those in the left navigation column for full information prior to using or requesting services.

  • Room Reservations and Use
CTS manages over 50 classrooms, auditoriums and other spaces on campus as shown on the Room List and Details page. Reservations are made via the web-based 25Live program, which also displays current schedules.
Requirements for reservations and use apply to everyone and are required to help keep these shared facilities in top operational shape.
  • Audio Visual and Computing
The majority of our rooms have a standard eRoom podium setup with a touch panel controlling projection and audio/video playback. Podiums also contain Windows computers configured with commonly used software; installation of other programs can be provided when properly requested. The secure Mercury wireless network can be used in all locations, and a few rooms are equipped with computers at seating for attendee use.
Lecture recordings for publishing via CourseWorks is available, be sure to review information on requesting or using these in advance.

Support Information
Following is a quick outline of support, for full details be sure to read our Room and Equipment Use and Classroom Scheduling requirements pages.

Beige 5help Phone at Classroom Podium
  • What we do - CTS Classroom Coordinators can assist with equipment issues that occur before, during, or after a scheduled class or event. Simply pick up the beige phone located on the wall next to each podium to automatically dial 5help as a priority call. If phone support is not able to help you immediately resolve the issue, a Classroom Coordinator will be dispatched and can typically arrive within minutes.
  • User responsibilities - Anyone using a CTS managed room is expected to be able to operate the equipment, or have a TA that is familiar with equipment available to assist them as outlined in Room and Equipment Use requirements. A laminated quick reference guide is kept on each podium; you can review the online tutorial for the standard eRoom set up; you can request from us in advance of your class; or arrange for additional A/V support to have a CTS technician operate equipment for you during your non-classroom events. Events are scheduled to end 10 minutes before the hour or half hour so you may reinstate the room to order if chairs were moved, the whiteboard was used or general tidying is required before the next class begins.
  • Facilities maintenance - while CTS checks rooms each weekday to verify they are in operational use, Facilities Management is responsible for CUMC general building and room maintenance including the classrooms and auditoriums. Services they cover are classroom cleaning, furniture repair and maintenance, heating, air conditioning and environmental controls and others. The Columbia University Department of Public Safety is responsible for security, fire or medical emergency issues.
