To provide a secure campus network, CUMC is blocking default open access from the Internet in to the CUMC network, with some ports and protocols (SMTP and NetBIOS) blocked on outgoing. To permit legitimate institutional business functions a Firewall Exception Request can be submitted to the CUMC IT Information Security group.
The owner of the system requiring the exclusion must be a Director-level or above person, or a Department or Division Administrator (or a designated Departmental or Divisional System administrator), or a senior faculty member, and must be the person to submit the request.
Service Description
Exceptions to allow certain required ports and protocols access through the
campus Firewall may be requested, provided that they are needed for legitimate institutional business functions. All requirements and information must be provided via the appropriate Firewall request form.
Technical information regarding the exclusion must be fully determined by the owner/department, CUMC IT is not able to assist (unless they are the group that will be managing the resource).
Using the Service
Once approved and processed, the firewall exception will work automatically on the back end of the network and equipment. If problems arise, technical support staff that manage the resource requiring the firewall exception must provide proper troubleshooting and adjust any configuration of the resource as needed.
Requesting the Service
The appropriate online request form may be submitted. All information must be correctly filled out, and the request must be made by the owner who must be a Director-level or above person, or a Department or Division administrator (or a designated Departmental or Divisional System administrator), or a senior faculty member.
