Applications to the Fall 2013 Entering MS Class will be accepted on a rolling basis until June 30, 2013. Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible, as the class may be filled before that time.
The information accompanying the pertinent application form will indicate what materials should accompany the application, any standardized tests whose results are needed by the Admissions Committee, and related information.
To apply for admission to the master’s program, the student should either download an application from the link above or request a formal application from the Office of Student Affairs of the Institute of Human Nutrition, 630 West 168th Street, PH 15 East, room 1512, New York, NY 10032. Admission to the program is limited. Completed application for the master's program should be returned to the Office of Student Affairs of the Institute (see above).
The Graduate Record Examination report of scores is required; in some cases, other test scores may be substituted. The admission of a student to graduate study depends primarily on his or her preparation and intellectual capacity, but it also rests upon judgments of the applicant's character and health.
Applications to the doctoral program, which requires a different form, are handled by the Admissions Office, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, 701 West 168th Street, New York, NY 10032. Doctoral Program applications can be submitted online.
All students whose native language is not English or who have not received secondary or university education in a country where English is the language of instruction must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), which is administered three times annually throughout the world. Information can be obtained by writing to: TOEFL, c/o Educational Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey 08541, U.S.A.
Students are required to report in person at the administrative office of the Institute at the beginning of each autumn, spring, and summer term. Registration dates are given in the Academic Calendar.
All students are asked to give their Social Security number when registering in the University. However, a Social Security number is required of international students only when they will be receiving payments from the University; these students should consult the International Students and Scholars Office (524 Riverside Drive; telephone 212-854-3587) for further information. Other students who do not have a Social Security number should obtain one from their local Social Security office well in advance of registration.
Each student arranges a program of courses in consultation with an adviser before the beginning of each term. Delayed registration is subject to the University rules regarding penalty fees .
Changes in Programs of Study
Once registered, a student may drop or add courses or change sections by filing a formal change-of-program application with the Office of Student Financial and Information Services during the change-of-program period each term; consult the Academic Calendar for dates. All such changes must first be approved by the student's adviser.
Students may drop courses after the change-of-program period, however, for courses dropped after the last day for change of program in each term, no adjustment of tuition will be made. Consult the Academic Calendar for dates. Failure to attend classes or unofficial notification to the instructor does not constitute dropping a course, and will result in a failing grade in the course.
