Eric Ravussin, PhD

Dr. Ravussin is the Boyd Professor in Human Physiology at Louisiana State University as well as the Director of the Nutrition Obesity Research Center and the Associate Executive Director for Clinical Science at Louisiana State University’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center. He is a world expert conducting translational research in obesity and type 2 diabetes. Over a career of more than 30 years, he has completed numerous studies of energy expenditure, body composition, carbohydrate metabolism, and biomarkers of aging in health and disease. In the past 15 years, he has also studied the cross-talk between skeletal muscle and adipose tissue and the roles of these two tissues in inflammation, nutrient partitioning, and insulin sensitivity. More recently, he has explored the effect of calorie restriction on biomarkers of aging, and the effect on insulin sensitivity of dietary, activity, surgical, and pharmacological interventions.
