Breast Cancer Program

The Breast Cancer Program is made up of a diverse group of physician-scientists that are recognized in breast cancer research and treatment. The goal of the Breast Cancer Program is to better understand the biology, genetics and biochemistry of breast cancer, and to apply this knowledge towards diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive strategies to reduce the incidence of breast cancer and improve the outcomes for patients with this disease. To achieve this end, an interdisciplinary approach that includes outstanding clinical programs in combination with basic research, clinical/translational research, and public health/behavioral/health outcomes research. The program is one of three disease-based Programs of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer.

The Clinical Breast Center is composed of a multidisciplinary team of radiologist, surgeons, medical oncologists, genetic counselors, and plastic surgeons offering a full spectrum of clinical and support services from screening and diagnostics, to prevention, treatment and care of long-term cancer survivors. We are able to offer patients a variety of clinical trials that can provide the latest advancements in clinical care and the treatment/prevention of breast cancer. In addition our research program has a strong focus on supportive care and cancer survivorship. Annually, about 200 patients are enrolled in research studies. We have weekly breast cancer tumor boards and weekly research meetings. Our physicians are leading national clinical trials, and have leadership roles in SWOG, ASCO, AACR and other breast cancer foundations.
