Evaluation of Program and Attending Staff

Residents evaluate the effectiveness of the program, especially the quality of the curriculum in achieving the educational goals on the different services in the parent institution, the integrated institution, the affiliated insti¬tutions, and in the conferences, and the rounds.
They evaluate the teaching staff semi-annually and the program annually. The resident evaluation of the at¬tending staff is confidential. Copies of the evaluation forms are attached. These evaluations are reviewed by the Program Director and Director of Surgery and appropriate corrective measures taken.

The residents meet individually with the Program Director and the Advisory Committee twice a year for a frank discussion of what each resident perceives as being the strengths and weaknesses of the program. The final evaluation/competency analysis of the individual residents also helps the committee in evaluating the quality of and effectiveness of the educational goals.

The institutional Graduate Medical Education Committee also evaluates the program (internal review). There are selected residents who are members of the GME Committee. They discuss the most recent GMEC report and accreditation of the institution and how it affects the program.

The program director organizes a retreat for the faculty and residents to discuss the effectiveness of the program in achieving its goals and objectives, including the resident the report of ACGME Resident on-line survey and the annual confidential evaluation of the program and faculty. The topics discussed include:

• Program Director’s report of important discussions and ‘What is new’ at the Annual APDS Meeting
