PAST EVENTS
JANUARY
|
| Leadership/Management Institute |
| Session 1, Days 1 & 2 |
Date(s): Fri., January 9th - Sat., January 10th
Academic leaders often rise through the ranks based on their achievements as researchers, educators, and clinical care providers. These skills do not necessarily prepare them for the challenges of leadership and management in the unique and complex environment of the academic medical center. For academic medical centers to succeed, strong leadership skills at the departmental and divisional levels are essential. The Leadership/Management Institute will support this development of these skills to complement the scientific and educational skills necessary to sustain the academic medicine mission.

Session 2, led by P&S Vice Dean for Academic Affairs Anne Taylor, is designed to provide information and support for those faculty members in the “prefix” and “suffix” tracks (those with the titles, “Assistant Clinical Professor of…” and “Assistant Professor of Clinical…”). Join these academic leaders as they demystify the career advancement process at CUMC. |

Date(s): Thurs., March 19th
Time: 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Finding your way around a career in academic medicine can be confusing: balancing research, clinical, teaching, and service responsibilities (and outside life!) while working steadfastly towards advancement. Mentors – more experienced colleagues who have successfully navigated the same challenges – can be critical in achieving success and maintaining sanity. While some mentoring relationships are assigned and others are cultivated outside of formal programs, there are strategies for success that apply to all mentor-mentee relationships. This workshop will introduce some of these strategies, as well as provide you with materials to use in informal or formal mentoring relationships to ensure that both the mentee and the mentor make the most of their time spent together. |
