James Thompsen is the Executive Director of Engineering at Columbia University Medical Center. James joined Columbia University in March of 2008. As the Executive Director of Engineering, James oversees Engineering, Plant Operation, Capital Infrastructure and Utilities. Mr. Thompsen introduced Commissioning to all Capital Projects and created an Energy Master Plan to reduce our 33 million dollar Energy Budget.
Prior to joining Columbia University, Mr. Thompsen worked at Continuum Health Partners where he held several progressive management positions including Corporate Director of Engineering and Director of Engineering at St Lukes/Roosevelt Hospital. Mr. Thompsen managed 6 million square foot and 50 million Energy Budget.
Prior to working for Continuum Mr. Thompsen worked for Cosentini Associates where he worked as an MEP Engineer on the AOL/Time Warner Center Project which included multiple areas such as, Commercial, Residential, Retail, Theater and Hotel.
Mr. Thompsen was also the Chief Engineer for Beth Israel Medical Center where he was involved on building the New Phillips Ambulatory Care Center and managed engineering operation.
Mr. Thompsen holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from City College of New York. James also volunteers his time to the students from SUNY Maritime on Facilities Management internships.
