Simulation

Majority of patients at Columbia University Medical Center have at least one simulation procedure prior to initiating a course of radiation therapy. This critical step is important in defining the treatment volume, as well as the fashioning of customized immobilization devices for some treatment types.

Once the treatment position is defined, other imaging may be required, such as CT Scan or MRI. Which combined with the information complied during the simulation is used to plan and guide the radiation therapy treatments.

During the simulation the Columbia University Physicians work closely with the Radiation Therapists, Dosimetrists and Medical Physicists to design the best possible course of treatment for each individual patient.
