Research
We study the role of phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase like kinase (PIKK) and mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) mediated cell signaling pathways in the response to low dose (low LET) ionizing radiation in 2D and 3D cell systems.
A second area of research involves collaboration
with the Columbia University
Skin Disease Research Center to study responses of adult skin
stem cells, primary keratinocytes and melanocytes to ionizing and
ultraviolet radiation (UVR) both in mono and co-culture. We are
interested in cell type specific differences in epigenetic modifications
of chromatin following DNA damage and during repair.
A third research focus is nucleoside analog adduct formation in cancer cells. Our aim is to sensitize cancer cells by targeting and inhibiting adduct repair processes leading to additional genomic instability that can be further exploited through combination of radiation and chemotherapeutics.
