DESCRIPTION OF THE DEPARTMENT
The department performs over 350,000 examinations per year. General diagnostic radiology occupies the western half of the third floor of the Milstein Building, which was opened in 1990 and overlooks the Hudson River. Included on this floor are CT, PET, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and multiple radiographic and fluoroscopic rooms. Also on this level are located the main film file room and the central reading room. The majority of staff radiologists have their offices in this area. Interventional Neuroradiology is located on the eighth floor adjacent to related patient bed areas.
The department's equipment includes 6 MRI units, including a 3.0T MRI, and 6 CT scanners, including 16-slice and 10-slice spiral CT. The Department also has immediate voice-activated transcription technology (Talk Technology) and department-wide PACS. Interventional Radiology and Neurointerventional Radiology are located in the Milstein-4 Interventional suite, which has five digital angio suites, biplane fluoroscopy and a spiral CT for biopsies and other interventional CT work. A sixth angio suite was added in the Children's Hospital (CHONY) in 2004.
