NEUROINTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY

Neurointerventional Radiology (aka Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology, Endovascular Neurosurgery) is a specialty dedicated to the minimally-invasive treatment of central and peripheral nervous system disease using image-guided technologies. The Neurointerventional group at Columbia University and the New York Neurological Institute is a multi-disciplinary group of physicians dedicated to the treatment of vascular disorders involving the brain, spinal cord, head and neck. In conjunction with the Vascular Anomalies Clinic, treatment of peripheral vascular malformations is also performed. Minimally-invasive spine stabilization procedures are also performed using procedures such as vertebroplasty and Kyphoplasty™.

 Neurointerventional Fellowship Opportunities

Neurointerventional fellowship is designed for individuals who choose to devote full-time to neurointerventional procedures. The fellowship involves extensive training under the supervision of three full-time faculty in diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology procedures. There is extensive exposure to critical care medicine in a dedicated 18 Bed Neurological ICU and in the conventional operating room environment during neurosurgical procedures. Applicants from radiology are required to have completed a residency in diagnostic radiology, be board-eligible or board-certified, and have twelve months of diagnostic neuroradiology training. Applicants from neurological surgery must have completed their residency and be board-eligible. Applicants from neurology must have completed their residency, be board-eligible, and have twelve months of stroke and critical care fellowship training. “Infolded” fellowship training, i.e., fellowship training during residency training may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Our program currently accepts one or two trainees per year. The fellowship duration is twenty-four months.
