EDITS TO THE SITE

To request edits to the site or make any suggestions, please e-mail Susanne Sullivan at ss819@columbia.edu and she will coordinate your request as needed.

To maintain your own bio, clinical, or lab pages, you may request that those pages be sent to you in word form.  Make any changes you wish directly on to it and re-send it to Susanne for upload as needed.

CREATE PAGES FOR THE SITE

Please feel free to create any NEW pages you feel would add to the web site, especially clinical pages describing your clinical practice, research pages to describe your research (whether or not you have a lab) and bio’s if you don’t already have one!   Some templates are provided in word below for you convenience.  Once you have completed your pages, you may goto “file” à “save as” and select “type: Web document” to convert to an html document.  Then submit to Susanne for upload.

PARTICIPATE IN THE CONTENT OF THE SITE

A web site does not have to be a set of stagnant pages in cyberspace but a communication tool and a resource to the public --an opportunity to present a positive public face.  Let’s identify our needs and get creative!  I highly encourage it!

Some specific goals where staff participation is needed are:

  1. Register site with several of the most popular search engines and appropriate directories. We are a reputable institution and a relatively large division and our Web presence currently does not reflect such.  Please alert us to any associations/directories we are or would like to be listed with.

  1. Creating Meta Tags for pages to which we wish to draw attention.  Meta Tags are invisible text embedded into the “source code” of a web page commonly used to ensure that all possible search terms/words used in a search engine leads to a “hit” on the results list of the consequent search page.  Meta tag creators are useful tools to help with this: http://vancouver-webpages.com/META/mk-metas.html.  Once the “script” is written, you may cut and paste into the source file of your html document (goto, fileàview source).

  1. Information Resources web page. Following in the steps of many well developed sites, we would like to develop a page that provides links and information to the public on pulmonary diseases, issues and treatment  Your contributions to this page (currently part of the “Research Page”) is what will lead to it’s creation as a separate page.

  1. Active Clinical Trials Listing, currently part of the Research Page, can be developed further as a separate page.

  1. Events Page.  We may want to feature the Pulmonary Grand Rounds Schedule as well as any talks or seminars given by our faculty.  We would then be able to send e-mail announcements through existing “list serve’s” linking to such a page.

  1. MAINTENANCE: We would like to keep the site fresh.  Please report any out-dated information that you come across.

  1. PHOTOS: I have added some photos for visual appeal but would much prefer to use actual Divisional images. Please submit any images you would be willing to share.

REPORT NEWS WORTHY ITEMS

Please announce any newsworthy items at https://www1.columbia.edu/sec/cu/news/forms/newcontent.html for inclusion in The Record, the Columbia news publication.

Anything that is published there should also be linked to from the pulmonary home page so please alert us to create such a pointer link.
