Report on the Task Force on Women Faculty:
Final Report from Task Force on Women Faculty (139K)

Drs. Lisa Mellman and Kara Kelly reported to the Faculty Council on the work of the task force and the retreat scheduled for next month.
The Task Force on Women Faculty was convened following the May 2004 Faculty Council meeting.
The group was comprised of broad representation of P&S academic ranks and administrative leaders.
The primary goal was to identify ways to create a climate of support for career development for women faculty at the medical school.
The task force identified two major problem areas:
- No existing infrastructure for faculty development for women or men.
- Lack of transparency and accountability at the department level particularly for annual reviews, and tracking gender equity in rank, salary and committee representation.
The task force focused on three areas that especially affect women faculty: representation at rank levels, salary equity, and representation on important committees at the medical school and departments. Also the task force considered other issues that affect women and men equally: mentoring, time line for researchers, child care, skill building and faculty development.
Recommendations have been discussed by the task force in monthly meetings and at a special meeting where Janet Bickel, consultant, spoke to the group regarding her work in this area at AAMC.
A retreat has been scheduled for November 30, 2004 and the Dean has invited all department chairs and the CU Vice Provost for Diversity. The retreat will focus on rank, salary equity and committee representation. During the retreat smaller work groups will develop models for consideration by the entire group. Dr. Darrell Kirch, Dean at Penn State and President of the AAMC Council of Deans, will facilitate the retreat.
A final report will be presented to the Faculty Council.
