Description: Training in diagnosis, management and counseling of patients and families with genetic disease.
Objectives: Learn differential diagnosis of genetic diseases and review principles of Mendelian and non-Mendelian disorders.
Learning Experience: Under sponsorship of the Program in Clinical Genetics, individual programs will be arranged for students, enabling them see patients with genetic conditions in obstetrics, pediatrics, medicine, neurology, cardiology, and oncology. Students will participate actively in genetic counseling sessions with patients, and will attend weekly case reviews and conferences. Diagnostic genetic laboratory experience is available for those interested.
Feedback: Students will interact regularly with M.D. geneticists and genetic counselors on all aspects of genetic diseases.
Evaluation: By physician responsible for each segment of the rotation.
