SUGGESTED OUTLINE, MEDICAL STUDENT RESEARCH PROPOSALS
- ABSTRACT
A one or two paragraph summary of the student's proposed research, outlining objectives and methods.
This is a summary of the student's work and not a general statement on the over-all project, though that may be included very briefly.
- INTRODUCTION TO THE PROJECT (1-2 pages)
A summary of the general and specific objectives of this project, with sufficient background and literature citations to enable those not expert in the field to understand the point of it all.
- SPECIFIC AIMS
Indicate precisely what you hope to accomplish research-wise and in terms of your educational goals.
- METHODS OF PROCEDURE (1-2 pages)
Give reasonable details of methods to be used, types of data expected and discuss how you plan to interpret the data including statistical methods if relevant.
- SIGNIFICANCE
A summary of the biomedical significance of the research to be done.
To this proposal should be appended your mentor's statement of willingness to supervise this work actively during the time of your stay in the laboratory, and a statement of his/her enthusiasm for the project.
We emphasize that this proposal is to be written by the student, albeit in collaboration with the proposed mentor.
The total length is not to exceed 4 pages.

The Committee will notify the student and mentor of its action at the earliest possible time after submission.
