Since its founding in 1987, the HIV Center has been continuously funded through P50 and P30 mechanisms, conducting interdisciplinary research on the sexual transmission of HIV infection; gender-specific interventions; strategies to improve medical adherence, coping, and quality of life for infected populations; and innovative dissemination of scientific findings. Supported by grants from NIMH and a wide variety of other public and private sources, HIV Center research has consistently evolved with the changing HIV epidemic, responding to the needs of a broad range of underserved inner-city populations and addessing issues of sexual behavior and gender, both in the US and internationally. The HIV Center also provides intensive and specialized postdoctoral training in human sexuality research as it relates to HIV/AIDS.
