Pediatric Rheumatology

Our program in Pediatric Rheumatology is an intensive 3 year program. The first 12 months is primarily clinical and involves a clinical project that results in an abstract and publication of a manuscript. Clinical mentors and research topics are identified in the first 6 months of training. Fellows are expected to be lead authors.

The second and third years are spent on translational and basic science projects. Basic science mentors are identified and the fellow has 18 to 24 months of protected research time. They continue with one continuity clinic and spend a second session on core education activities. Thus, 80% of their time is spent directly on their project.

The research project leads directly to a grant application and publication.

The trainees graduating from Columbia's program have included two M.D./Ph.D.'s, and three graduates have gone on to direct academic pediatric rheumatology programs.

We currently have four full-time Faculty and two part-time board certified Pediatric Rheumatologists and four Adult Rheumatologists who act as research mentors.

We presently participate in the NRMP. Candidates who are interested in our Fellowship program should forward a copy of their CV, personal statement and three letters of support to Dr. Lisa Imundo Division of Pediatric Rheumatology, Morgan Stanley Childrens Hospital of New York-Presbyterian, 3959 Broadway, CHN – 106, New York, NY 10032. Questions regarding availability and status may be sent by email to Frances Jones at fj2002@columbia.edu.
