Each day we become more knowledgeable about the foods we eat, the best nourishment for infants and children, and what must be done when problems arise. For instance, the prevalence of food allergies has increased significantly over the past 15 years, estimated to occur in 3-5% of the adult population and 6-8% of the pediatric population. We want to find out why to determine what is preventable and what care our patients need.
The Division of Allergy and Immunology at Columbia University Medical Center conducts research into the increase in food allergies and into the spectrum of immunological disorders. The Division cares for an increasing patient population in clinical offices at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian and throughout the TriState region.
