Welcome
to the Center for Orthopedic Research
The
missions of Center for Orthopedic Research (COR) are (1) to
provide research and educational environments for students,
residents, fellows and faculty members; and (2) to develop
novel therapeutic concepts or modalities by conducting translational
studies that bridge basic science and clinical practice. Current
and prior research activities include studies on the molecular
pathophysiology of shoulder rotator cuff disorders, molecular
mechanism of osteolysis, osteoblast biology, sarcoma research,
molecular mechanism of bone regeneration, normal function
of diarthrodial joints, osteochondral healing and growth plate
abnormalities.
The
commitment of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery to the
Center for Orthopedic Research is preceded by the department's
support for Orthopedic research for over forty-years. In addition
to the research accomplishments mentioned, and due to the
department's long history of providing outstanding Orthopedic
training and education, many of today's leaders in Orthopedic
surgery are alumni of NYOH and of Columbia Presbyterian Medical
Center. Some of the distinguished alumni of NYOH have been
elected to responsible positions in professional societies
of Orthopedic surgery, including presidencies and board directorships
of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American
Orthopaedic Association, Orthopaedic Research Society, Orthopaedic
Research and Education foundation and others, and have won
major honors such as the Kappa Delta Award. The Laboratory
basic components of research are Molecular Biology, Bioengineering,
and Clinical Orthopedics.
