Admission Criteria and Process

Application Procedure

We are using the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS). In addition to a completed application, the following is also required:

  • Dean's letter from your medical school
  • Copy of your transcript
  • Letters of recommendation from at least three of your teachers in medical school
  • Results of any license examinations (USMLE)
  • Personal Statement
  • Current CV

Only ERAS applications are accepted. Deadline for Submission is November 1.

When your file is complete our faculty will review it. Because of the large number of applicants, interviews will be offered to those applicants in whom the Department's Education Committee has a genuine interest as potential residents at the Sloane Hospital for Women. If the Committee would like you to come for an interview, we shall contact you. Interviews and tours are given during December and January.

Those applicants with one-year postgraduate training will also be considered. The term of appointment begins on July 1st.

Licensure Requirements:

The Medical Board of New York-Presbyterian Hospital requires each physician on the House Staff have a license to practice medicine in New York State by the third month of their second year of residency. A graduate of an approved American medical school may obtain a New York State license by one of the states recognized for reciprocity by the New York State Education Department, or by taking other licensing examinations, which are accepted in New York State.
