Volunteer Opportunity
Based on the needs identified by the Ministry of Health in Jamaica, Holy Mount Zion Church in the Bronx is looking for nurses to volunteer in their healthcare mission projects in Jamaica. Nursing skills needed include patient assessment, care plans, interventions, health education, disease prevention and follow-up.

The University of Sheffield is now a host institution for Fulbright Scholars and the Fulbright Commission US Scholar Awards for 2013-14 are now open. US Scholar Awards offer US academics and professionals the chance to undertake research or research and teaching at any accredited UK higher education institution. Opportunities are available for college and university faculty as well as for professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars and many others. As well as an All-disciplines award there are also specific partner awards, one of which is with Sheffield.

If you know of any US scholars or professionals that would be interested in coming to Sheffield through the Fulbright programme to contribute to research and/or teaching then please pass this information on to them.

Fulbright Awards offer generous financial support for academic projects in the UK. Additionally, Fulbright scholars in the UK are invited to participate in a wide range of events, and benefit from a variety of additional opportunities and support provided by the Fulbright Commission. Fulbright scholars also benefit from an extensive range of alumni and global networking opportunities after their exchange.

The School of Nursing encourages its graduates to develop an understanding of global health issues and participate in volunteer opportunities to deliver care.

International SOS, (ISOS)

ISOS is one of the world's largest medical and security assistance company with more than 3,000 professionals in 24-hour Alarm Centers, international clinics and remote-site medical facilities across five continents. The service supplements and integrates with Columbia University emergency services, procedures and policies in the event of an evacuation and repatriation or immediate medical intervention.

ISOS is contracted by Columbia University to provide special emergency service to employees who travel abroad for study, research, work projects, or other University business (itinerary will be requested).

Employees who travel abroad for leisure also have the opportunity to receive a group membership discount of 20% on services outside of their medical coverage (if necessary).
