Columbia University School of Nursing has a long and illustrious history with an active alumni body of more than 11,000 graduates. School of Nursing alumni are found across the globe in positions of leadership in academia, business, government, and service. All alumni have reason to be proud of their Alma Mater and the education they received at Columbia. They show their support for the School’s mission by remaining active participants in School events, donating their time and expertise as mentors to students, serving on Alumni Association committees and contributing financial support for student scholarships and other needed School initiatives. As the founder of the School of Nursing, Anna Maxwell, said, “The care of the sick, conservation of our human resources, and the protection of community health are the burdens laid upon [the nurse] by society. [The nurse] must therefore secure adequate preparation to meet these professional responsibilities.”
Led by a Board of Directors & Officers, the mission of the Alumni Association is to support the School of Nursing and its alumni, and to further alumni involvement with the School and fellowship among alumni. All alumni are members of the Alumni Association; currently there are more than 11,000 members. The Alumni Association is governed by By-Laws.
Each year, the Alumni Association hosts Alumni Reunion and other events at the School of Nursing. These events are a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with friends and classmates, to meet students and professors, and to see the School.
The Alumni Association works with the Office of Development & Alumni Affairs to support the School through the Annual Fund. All gifts to the Annual Fund serve to support student financial aid.
