Over 200 guests attended the CIRAR Symposium, "The Global Problem of Antimicrobial Resistance: Clinical, Policy, and Social Implications" which was co-sponsored by the New York Academy of Sciences.  CIRAR welcomed guest speaker Dr. Stuart Levy, President of Alliance for Prudent Use of Antibiotics (APUA) - http://www.tufts.edu/med/apua.  Dr. Levy's talk was followed by a reaction panel consisting of the CIRAR's External Advisory Board of national experts: Marcelle Layton, MD, Assistant Commissioner, Bureau of Communicable Diseases, New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; Barbara J. McNeil, MD, PhD, Professor and Head, Department of Health Care Policy, Harvard Medical School; and Michele Pearson, MPH, MD, Chief of the Prevention and Evaluation Branch, Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, National Center for Infectious Diseases, CDC.
