The Department of Microbiology & Immunology in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Columbia University bridges modern molecular biology with research on infectious disease and immunology. The doctoral program in the department began in 1893, and was the first medical science degree granting program at Columbia University. The faculty, postdoctoral fellows, staff and students of the department continue a long tradition of making outstanding contributions to biology and medicine.
