The Department of Microbiology in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Columbia University bridges modern molecular biology and research on infectious disease. The doctoral program in Microbiology began in 1893, and was the first medical science degree granting program at Columbia University. The faculty, postdoctoral fellows, staff and students of the department continue a long tradition of making outstanding contributions to biology and medicine.
