- PROFILE SUMMARY
- Igor Matushansky, M.D., Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Matushansky cares for patients with solid tumors with an emphasis on cancers of connective tissue (also called sarcomas).
Dr. Matushansky received his undergraduate B.A. degree, summa cum laude, from Columbia College, Columbia University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He then went on to attend the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he received his MD degree as well as his PhD degree in molecular biology for which he received the Julius Marmur Award for Thesis Research. He performed his Internal Medicine training at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical Center. He completed his fellowship in Medical Oncology at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He is currently involved in patient care, clinical research, translational research, basic science research and the teaching of medical oncology fellows.
Dr. Matushansky is involved in translational research in sarcomas. He coordinates a laboratory effort aimed at 1) establishing a relationship between normal connective tissue development and sarcomagenesis; and 2) translating those findings into therapeutic modalities.
