Dr. David Savage is a graduate of the medical school at Columbia University in New York City. He was a medical resident, chief resident, and fellow in hematology-oncology at Harlem Hospital and Presbyterian Hospital, both Columbia affiliates. On the basis of his work in New York, Dr. Savage was awarded an Associate Professorship at Columbia University and a Fulbright Lectureship at the University of Zimbabwe in 1989. After 2 years as a clinical and academic hematologist in Harare, he moved to London, where he joined the Department of Hematology at the Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals. In this position, his work focused on hematological malignancies and allogeneic and autologous stem cell transplantation. In January 1996 he returned to the Hematology/Oncology Division at Columbia to broaden the institution's management of the hematological malignancies at New York Presbyterian and Harlem Hospitals. His clinical work is centered on the diagnosis and management of leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, anemia, thrombosis, and bleeding disorders. Dr. Savage holds ABIM certificates in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, and Hematology. Dr. Savage's clinical research has been a major focus of his career and has led to a variety of publications, including papers on lymphoma, multiple myeloma, megaloblastic anaemia, pancytopenia, chronic myeloid leukemia, and autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation. He continues to compile one of the world's largest series of patients with hematological and neurological complications of cobalamin deficiency.
