PROFILE SUMMARY

Victor R. Grann, M.D., M.P.H., is Clinical Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology and Health Policy & Management, College of Physicians & Surgeons and Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University. Dr. Grann trained at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. A medical oncologist for more than 30 years, in 1997 he received both his M.P.H. degree in Health Policy and Management (Health Outcomes) at Columbia University and a Clinical Research Training Grant from the American Cancer Society. His work has focused on decision analysis of heath outcomes related to genetic mutations in breast/ovarian cancer. In 2004, he received a Research Scholar’s Grant in Health Policy for “Decision analysis of population screening for BRCA1/2 mutations” to compare MRI’s to routine breast cancer screening through statistical modeling.

Dr. Grann directs the Research Recruitment and Minority Outreach Shared Resource at the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is Principal Investigator of the NSABP Study of tamoxifen and raloxifene (STAR) trial for the Cancer Center. He has worked extensively on decision analyses, studies of preferences for breast cancer prevention strategies, and analyses of Medicare/SEER data to assess cancer care and the effects of socioeconomic status, class, and race on survival. He is deeply committed to alleviating racial disparities through studies of cancer outcomes.
