PROFILE SUMMARY
Dr. Garrett received his medical degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada. He did house staff training at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center (now Columbia University Medical Center) followed by a fellowship in Medical Oncology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He has certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine in Medicine and Medical Oncology. He joined the faculty of Columbia University in 1979 and is currently Professor of Clinical Medicine.

Dr. Garrett’s primary academic activity is in medical education. He is Director of the Pathophysiology Course which is taken by all the second year medical and dental students. His contribution to undergraduate education has been recognized by the award of Teacher of the Year from the medical students on multiple occasions and by his receipt of the Charles W. Bohmfalk Award for Distinguished Contributions to Teaching in the Pre-Clinical Years, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, May, 2003.

Dr. Garrett is also Director of the Glenda Garvey Teaching Academy.
