R. Graham Barr, M.D., Dr.P.H.
Florence Irving Assistant Professor of Medicine and Assistant Professor of Epidemiology
Dr. Barr is a general internist and respiratory epidemiologist. He received his medical degree from McGill University, residency training at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, general medicine fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, respiratory epidemiology fellowship at the Channing Laboratory, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and doctorate in epidemiology from Harvard School of Public Health.
His research interests focus on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and asthma. He is Principle Investigator (PI) of the EMCAP Study, a prospective cohort study on fish oil intake, biomarkers, and COPD among current and former smokers. He is co-PI of the Columbia University Field Center of the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA), a 10-year prospective cohort study of subclinical atherosclerosis, and PI of the MESA-Lung Study, a study of endothelial function, lung function and CT lung density among 3,800 MESA participants. He also leads the Columbia Field Center of the MESA-Air study, a 10-year prospective cohort study of the health effects of ambient air pollution.
Dr. Barr also leads the Spirometry Reading Center for the Cardiovascular Health Study (CHS)/All-Stars and the Long Life Family Study, and is part of the Spirometry Reading Center for the Hispanic Community Health Study.
