The IRB has also released a very important guidance document for student research at Columbia University that should significantly facilitate the submission of proposals by students to the IRB. The IRB has worked with representatives of many Schools at Columbia over the past couple of years to draft these documents. The IRB recognizes that students are generally not familiar with RASCAL and often have limited time to conduct their research. After carefully considering the impact on students and faculty, as well as the need for the IRB to review student research proposals efficiently, the IRB has created a simplified IRB submission process to help streamline submissions by students to the IRB. The IRB office will make every effort to work with faculty and students to review proposals promptly. Therefore, it is imperative that all students read the Policy and the Guidance carefully. Both the Policy and the Guidance can be found on the IRB Web Sites: Columbia University Morningside Campus IRB Columbia University Medical Center IRB George Gasparis Executive Director, Columbia University HRPP/IRB Asst.
