Plasma and Serum Storage
Isolating Plasma from Blood Samples
- Assign Lab ID# to the Blood tubes and to the 1.0 ml cryogenic vials used for plasma storage.
- Centrifuge Blood tubes at 1500 rpm for 15 minutes.
- Pipette 1 ml of the Plasma from the Blood tube (the upper phase) into the vial. Store the vials containing the plasma at -70C
Isolating Serum from Blood Samples
Red Top Vacutainer tubes are used for Serum Collection
- Assign Lab ID# to the Blood tubes and to the 1.0 ml cryogenic vials used for serum storage.
- Centrifuge Blood tubes at 1500 rpm for 15 minutes.
- Pipette 1 ml of the serum from the Blood tube (the upper phase) into the vial. Store the vials containing the serum at -70C
Aliquoting DNA samples for genotyping experiments for existing clients
- The DNA concentrations of the samples in ng/ul are measured by absorbance readings at A260.
- An aliquot of the DNA sample is prepared by pipetting the volume containing the required amount of DNA and making up the remaining volume to 1ml with water.
- The required amount of DNA is specified for different studies by the existing clients.
