Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) We would like to congratulate our four CTSA recipients who have each been awarded $10,000 to use as credit for HGRC services. Dr. Ruth Ottman: Linkage Study of Epilepsy aims to identify genes that play a role in causing epilepsy, and to study how these genes affect risk for specific types of epilepsy. Dr. Ivonne Jimenez: Memory Disorders in Puerto Ricans 65 y/o and older living in Northeastern Puerto Rico aims to determine the relevance of memory disorders in subjects 65 years and older and to identify variations in genes among Caribbean Hispanics living in Puerto Rico that increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease, the most common type of dementia. Blood biomarkers will also be measured that will help in early diagnosis for high risk populations. Dr. Joseph H. Lee: Genetics of Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease (EOAD) in Caribbean Hispanic Families aims to perform a genome wide scan on EOAD families with the G206A mutation of PSEN1 gene. Dr. Lawrence S. Honig: Biosamples from Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) aims to obtain and store DNA, plasma, and CSF on subjects enrolled in the ADRC at Columbia University to allow performance of genetic and biomarker studies on banked fluids and DNA.
