The DOME began as a small alternative classroom program in 1973; since then the Project has grown to include a variety of educationally based youth programs. The Academic Tutoring and Mentoring program offers free tutorial services to individuals ages 9-18 years old in one subject area. Each student is paired 1:1 with a tutor who they work with for the duration of the program. Pairs meet one night a week for 1 hour, under the supervision of certified Board of Education Teachers who serve as support to both the students and volunteers. The College Prep Program offers free services to youngsters who need help in securing placement in private preparatory schools, colleges, or universities – and who need help in succeeding once placed. For intermediate and high school students who may be struggling at home or in school, the Program offers the chance to move beyond past problems and excel in new school environments. The agency helps students at risk to earn placement in independent preparatory schools in the northeast.
