    Services: Children's Arts & Science Workshop, Inc. (CASW) was founded in 1968 to help children and their families develop appreciation for the arts and humanities. Participants enrolled in the various programs develop cultural interests and creative skills through active involvement in non-competitive, art, dance, music, and theatre workshops. In addition to the cultural component, CASW provides youth and their families with multimedia events and structured recreational and educational programs. CASW's services have developed throughout the years to include programs that reinforce academic skills, encourage access to higher education, and develop career goals.

    Services: The mission of Fresh Youth Initiatives is to support and encourage the efforts of young people in Washington Heights as they design and carry out community service projects, develop leadership skills, fulfill their potential and realize their dreams. FYI program’s Community Youth in Action allows young people with differing levels of skills and motivation to participate. Service projects include making sleeping bags for the homeless, removing graffiti, and handing out food. Youth are given the opportunity to carry out service projects of their own design under the Neighborhood Services Leaders Program.

    Services: Rheedlen's Harlem Peacemakers identifies and trains young people who are committed to making their neighborhoods safe places for children and families. Through its School Success Project, 67 Peacemakers work directly in classrooms and operate after school and summer programs at P.S. 144, 207 and 76, serving 1,200 elementary children in the area.

    Services: The Valley, Inc. is a comprehensive youth agency whose primary goal is to empower young people, aged 6 to 24, to become independent, self-sufficient and responsible adults. Presently, The Valley serves 5,000 youth and adults annually throughout its eight different locations, including five public schools, two recreational/family centers and its main offices at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. The Leadership Development program offers leadership seminars that include Racial Harmony and Conflict Resolution workshops, the Neighborhood Alliance project, Peer Outreach and the Paul Robeson Leadership Training Institute. Working with public and private sector resources, The Valley's employment services (SYEP, YES, Time Warner Youth Summer Initiative, and Job Readiness Instruction) provide jobs and internships for approximately 800 youth annually, and job training and career counseling for hundreds more. The Valley's Beacon Program includes educational support services, counseling, adult learning programs, cultural activities, recreational activities, college prep classes, and computer literacy programs at the Wadleigh Secondary School. The Valley's Education Program consists of attendance improvement/drop-out prevention at Brandeis H.S., Martin Luther King Jr. H.S., Park West H.S., and Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Academy and provides monitoring, support services, tutoring, counseling, after-school activities, enrichment activities, college preparation, and job readiness for a total of 1,450 participants. Such programs have resulted in improved report cards, reductions in drop-out rates and increases in graduation rates. Parenting workshops, ACS Preventive Services, Youth Rap Groups, Teen-Age Service Act (TASA) Program, Healthy Start, The Living Consortium Program and Keeping It Real serve more than 800 youth and families with crisis intervention, drug and family counseling, AIDS awareness, parenting and prenatal nutrition counseling, entitlements and housing advocacy.

    Services: Young Men's Christian Association of Harlem has a rich tradition of helping community youth meet today's challenges and fulfill their potential. The organization recognizes that the young people of today will be the adults, parents and leaders of tomorrow. The YMCA of Harlem, as a community institution, recognizes its obligation to provide vibrant, innovative programs that help youth develop the character needed to become productive citizens. Since its founding at the turn of the last century, the YMCA has been the cultural and spiritual center of New York City's African-American community. Its members and supporters comprise a who's who of African-Americans who have made their mark in almost every field of human endeavor.
