    The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation welcomes millions of visitors a year to its magnificent parks, historic sites, and recreation areas. The department offers art fairs, festivals, and sports programs for people of all ages and abilities. In addition, the Department sponsors boating and snow mobiling programs, nature study, and outreach programs for those interested in zoos, botanical gardens, and aquariums.

    Batallion 13 is responsible for the careful supervision of various fire companies to ensure their utmost efficiency. Batallion 13 offers firehouse tours to students.

    The officers at Engine 67 provide fire safety instructions to kindergarten children in the neighboring schools and offers children the opportunity to tour the different fire trucks at their site.

    Police Service Area #6 provides youth in the community with a variety of educational and recreational programs including DARE, a national drug abuse education program for children in kindergarten through sixth grade in which specially trained uniformed police officers visit classrooms and teach children how to resist involvement in drugs, violence and gangs.

    The 24th Police Precinct offers various public safety programs for the community. Among these are the Block Watcher Program and the Drugbuster Program that keep community streets safe and drug free. In addition to these programs, the 24th Police Precinct also offers summer employment for youth in the surrounding areas.

    The 26th Precinct Community Affairs Department offers programs targeted to youth in the community. The Explorer Program offers youngsters between the ages of 14 and 21 who are interested in law enforcement the opportunity to take part in field trips, camping outings and community service projects. The youth council offered by the precinct involves both male and female members who are 13 to 17 years old and aims to provide a positive alternative to youth in the community. Through the School Visit and Precinct Tours Program, Community Affairs Youth Officers and the Community Policing Unit of the Precinct visit all local schools to discuss local concern and issues.

    The 28th Police Precinct offers a variety of programs for youth in the community including recreational programs through the P.A.L. (Police Athletic League) and educational programs through the Dunleavy Milbank Center.

    The Community Affairs Department in the 30th Police Precinct has evolved from a single program for youth to a network of programs and strategies that deal with community outreach, civilian participation, and youth and crime prevention. The goal of this network of programs is to foster mutual understanding between police and individuals in order to build lasting partnerships with New York City’s diverse communities.

    The 32nd Police Precinct offers youth in the community the Truancy Program. The program utilizes youth officers in the community to pick up youths who are hanging out in game rooms, parks, and on street corners during school hours.

    The 33rd Police Precinct offers many public safety programs that include security surveys to ensure adequate security in homes or businesses, law enforcement exploring, a partnership between the New York City Police Department and the Boy Scouts of America for teens 14-20 and a domestic violence unit.

    The 34th Police Precinct offers crime prevention programs that serve to help and protect the community. Among these programs are the Combat Auto Theft (C.A.T.), Computer Combat Auto Theft (C.C.A.T.), Help End Auto Theft (H.E.A.T), Taxi/Livery Robbery Inspection Program (T.R.I.P.) and the Vehicle Identification Number (V.I.N.) Etched On Auto Glass.
