As part of New York-Presbyterian Hospital's ongoing commitment to improve access to medical services at the hospital, the Department of Surgery has created a streamlined program for surgery referrals for Medicaid, Medicare, and some HMO patients. Columbia Community Surgeons is a community oriented program that offers a full range of general, pediatric and vascular surgery services. The primary motivation of this group is to expedite the patient referral process by lending itself to easy communication between the referring physician and the hospital’s resident surgeons, while providing patients with high quality surgical care, education and preventive measures. The goal of the Columbia Community Surgeons is to provide a more "user-friendly" venue to surgical care, particularly for Medicaid and Medicare patients.

The Affairs of the Heart Committee of New York-Presbyterian Hospital is dedicated to educating women about the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular and related diseases. Since 1993, the Affairs of the Heart Committee has provided education to women through two avenues, the Luncheon Seminar held in the Fall, and the Women’s Free Health Symposium held in the Spring. Each event offers women the opportunity to learn the most up-to-date medical and social information pertaining to women’s concerns. Past topics have included "Women and Heart Disease," "Menopause and Hormone Replacement Therapy," "Nutrition," "Female Sexuality," "Complementary Medicine" and "Domestic Violence." The Health Symposiums offer women the opportunity to speak one-on- one with Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center experts and receive free screenings. In addition, each year the committee has been dedicated to giving back to the community through the Affairs of the Heart Fund.
