    The mission of the Harlem Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention is to reduce excess mortality and morbidity in the Harlem community. The Center works in partnership with community-based organizations, academic institutions, government and private agencies to achieve its mission through the following activities: assessment of the health status of the Harlem community and examination of the risk factors and protective factors that contribute to health status planning, implementation and evaluation of prevention research programs and strategies designed to reduce mortality and morbidity in the Harlem community and training future generations of prevention researchers, including students, health care workers and members of the Harlem community.
