The Dental Assistant Training Program was developed in collaboration with the Harlem Hospital Dental Service, Columbia University’s School of Dental and Oral Surgery, and supported in part by the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone. The program is tuition-free and provides twelve months of intensive academic and clinical training in all aspects of dental assisting. The goal of the program is to train professional assistants, capable of becoming state certified and valued members of any type of dental health team. The program provides students with intensive training in dental assisting computer skills necessary for dental office functions, academic courses that include dental anatomy, dental radiology, dental materials, head and neck anatomy, oral pathology and dental health education, dental office management courses, and 300 hours of chairside clinic time.
