    The State Pre-College Enrichment Program (S-Prep) is a rigorous academic program for minority students, in grades 9 through 12, who are seriously interested in medicine or related health professions. S-Prep offers a schedule of basic and medical science courses structured to place emphasis on the teaching of laboratory skills. The courses currently offered are general chemistry, biochemistry, behavioral science, molecular biology/ genetics, neuroscience, anatomy, physics and microbiology. Career counseling and college admission workshops are held during the year with representatives from Columbia College and other area institutions. Site visits and other extracurricular activities are planned during the academic year. Overall school average of 85 or better and demonstrable motivation and maturity are required.

    The goal of The Summer High School Minority Student/Teacher Initiative Program is to stimulate support and interest among minority high school students in biomedical research and the health professions as career choices. Ten students are selected annually to participate in the six-week summer program to conduct research under the mentorship of Columbia University Health Sciences faculty. Career counseling, college admissions workshops and scientific enrichment activities are included in the six-week experience. Overall academic average of 85 or better and demonstrable motivation and maturity are required.
