Community Connections >
Introduction
The Columbia- Presbyterian Medical Center is a major center for teaching, research, and
world-class medical care. Comprised of the Columbia University Health Sciences Division, the
New York-Presbyterian Hospital and the New York State Psychiatric Institute, the Center
provides programs that serve the Washington Heights/Inwood and Harlem communities. These
programs provide a variety of services that are designed to address the health and educational
needs of the communities we serve.
The Center has many dedicated faculty, doctors and staff who understand the community and who want
to work collaboratively with it to improve the health and quality of life of the community's
residents. We understand that the work of the Center is interrelated with the work of the
community. For this reason we have expanded our community guide to include both institutional/
community programs as well as community programs run by organizations in our neighborhood. This
new guide will familiarize staff, students, administrators and clinicians, as well as community
leaders, activists, residents and elected officials with the numerous programs that make this a
great community. It is a valuable tool for both institutions and communities to provide better
service to the Washington Heights/Inwood and Harlem communities.
