Services

The Columbia University Medical Center Development Office offers an effective major gift program to all members of the faculty and administration. Since 1990, the office has achieved an increasingly successful record of helping to locate and secure significant support from private philanthropic sources, including individuals, foundations, and corporations, for all areas of the Health Sciences.

Development Officers are assigned to work with Health Science Division Schools, Institutes,Centers,Departments, and Divisions to identify and cultivate prospective donors and to plan for and implement the solicitation of gifts to support a wide range of academic and research projects. They also have the responsibility for helping to build and maintain excellent lifetime relationships with major donors to this campus.


Services

Departmental Consultation
. establishing and prioritizing fund-raising needs
. developing departmental fund-raising plans
. working with physicians to identify prospective donors

Research

. providing an appropriate context for working with prospective donors (individuals, corporations and foundations)

Cultivation
developing, coordinating, and implementing cultivation plans

Major Gifts Solicitation
. developing, coordinating, and implementing solicitation plans
. developing and implementing stewardship activities
. preparing gift and pledge agreements

Planned Giving
. working with prospects to help structure complex instruments for charitable giving
. preparing updates on tax and estate law affecting charitable giving
. working with physicians to plan and implement the cultivation of planned gifts
. preparing seminars on retirement, tax and estate planning, and giving opportunities

Communication
. writing, editing, design, and production for proposals, newsletters, brochures, booklets, invitations, and reports
. writing cultivation and solicitation letters, major gift acknowledgments, and stewardship reports
. donor and gift tracking

Outreach
.
organizing educational events: tours, seminars, and conferences
. arranging small dinners, receptions

Annual Fund
. planning and organizing fund-raising campaigns for professional schools and departments
. annual mailings and telemarketing
. annual gift acknowledgements and tracking

Neighborhood Fund
. organizing and implementing Medical Center campus fund drive for nonprofit services
. organizing awards competition, site visits and awards ceremony
