Chairman's message

Welcome to the Department of Dermatology of the NewYork - Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University Medical Center, a world renowned academic center specializing in education, research, and patient care. Established in 1911 as one of the nation's largest and best-equipped centers for skin care, the Department today continues to be a premier institution dedicated to training the leaders of tomorrow in our specialty.

Our residency program is highly ranked in the nation. We have a strong commitment to provide the most comprehensive intensive educational experience to our trainees. The Department has an outstanding faculty including 20 full-time and 98 part-time voluntary members who support the residency training program.The resident practice is fully integrated with our faculty practice to provide both a continuum of care and comprehensive educational opportunities in a strong multi-specialty academic clinical setting. We provide highly specialized services such as dermatopathology, Mohs micrographic surgery, phototherapy, photopheresis, cosmetic and laser surgery, a multidisciplinary melanoma clinic, a vascular lesions clinic, an epidermolysis bullosa multidisciplinary clinic, transplant dermatology/clinic, and a psychodermatology consultation service.

Additionally, the Department is among the top ten NIH funded units in the United States. We are ranked 3rd in the nation for 2009. We provide a combined clinical and research program as well as numerous research opportunities in basic science and clinical trials to promote careers in investigative dermatology.
All of our administrators and staff share that strong commitment to serving our community, as well as fostering a culture of discovery to promote the understanding of dermatologic diseases.
