Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)Medical Nutrition Therapy will be reimbursed for individuals with diabetes, renal disease, or chronic renal insufficiency. MNT, if combined with diabetes self management training, may not exceed 10 hours in a twelve month period, unless the patient's diagnosis changes. A referral from a physician is required. MNT services may be performed by registered dietitians or licensed nutritionists. Registered dieticians and licensed nutritionists must obtain provider identification numbers from the carrier, and must be independent providers. If the service is performed by a physician in conjunction with an office visit or other evaluation and management service, the MNT will be considered bundled into the E&M service. |
