Welcome to the spring issue of “Compass,” the Billing Compliance newsletter. This newsletter periodically informs clinical faculty, house staff, and other University personnel about current issues related to professional fee billing.

Billing Assistance Available
The Office for Billing Compliance is available for education, guidance, clarification, and assistance on billing practices. The office provides instructions in documentation standards and guidance in billing policies and procedures.

Columbia University Billing Compliance Hotline

The Billing Compliance HOTLINE -305-7739 (5-7739) is available to assist departmental billing personnel and faculty who wish to communicate confidential concerns related to professional billing. Callers may remain anonymous, however, sufficient information is necessary to allow the concern or issue to be addressed. Information needed includes the name of the department, or division, dates of service, place of service, correspondence received from health insurance companies, and any other information that would allow the Office for Billing Compliance to investigate effectively. All information is held in the strictest confidence. The HOTLINE is available 24 hours a day. Appropriate action will be taken on all calls.
