CMSIn June 2001, the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) became the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). In announcing the new title for the organization that oversees the national implementation of Medicare and Medicaid initiatives, rules, and regulations, CMS noted that it would be instituting carrier reforms that may result in fewer carriers across the country. In addition, CMS will investigate the possibility of narrowing the gap between the Part A and Part B Medicare deductibles. Currently for 2002, the Part A deductible is $812, while the Part B deductible remains $100.
