Angina

There is about a 30 percent chance of re-narrowing of the coronary artery due to scar formation at the coronary artery site within the first 3 to 6 months.

If your angina symptoms return or you experience symptoms such as pain, fullness, tightness or burning in your chest, arms, or neck, you need to let your physician know right away. It may mean that the blockage has reoccurred.

It is important to carry nitroglycerin tablets with you after your procedure.

If You Think You Are Having Angina

When using nitroglycerin tablets, follow these steps. If your physician has prescribed nitroglycerin, whenever you experience any symptoms of angina, you should place one tablet under your tongue where it will slowly dissolve. You may feel a slight sensation of stinging or burning under your tongue.

1. STOP what you are doing. SIT DOWN AND REST.

2. If the symptoms are not gone in 2 to 3 minutes, place a nitroglycerin tablet under your tongue and let it dissolve. You may feel a slight sense of stinging or burning under your tongue, this means the nitroglycerin is working to help relieve your angina.

3. Wait 3 to 5 minutes. If your angina is still present, take a second nitroglycerin tablet.

4. Again, wait 3 to 5 minutes. If the symptoms remain, take a third nitroglycerin tablet.

5. If your angina has not subsided after the third nitroglycerin tablet or after 15 minutes since you first began experiencing discomfort, or your symptoms are stronger than usual, you may be having a heart attack. Call an ambulance or have someone drive you to the nearest emergency room.

DO NOT IGNORE THESE WARNING SYMPTOMS!!!!

6. If the pain goes away with rest or nitroglycerin, call your doctor within 24 hours.

When using nitroglycerin spray, follow these steps. Nitroglycerin spray can also be used to control angina. One or two doses should be sprayed onto or under your tongue. Do not use more than 3 doses within a 15 minute period.

If the pain goes away with rest or nitroglycerin, call your doctor within 24 hours.
